So yes, color me excited, for the Age of S’jet is reborn. Recruit and command officers, upgrade your fleet, and experience true, 3D MMO strategy gameplay like never before. Plus, Homeworld is rightfully hailed as one of the greatest games ever made, and its formula of free-axis movement and space strategy has gone curiously under-imitated. $35 seems a tad steep for a pair of games that are more than a decade old at this point (and fifteen years for Homeworld), but between the graphical/UI upgrades and getting the original versions of both games patched for modern systems (which have never been released on the likes of GOG, etc.), it’s not terrible. All I know is I love what Ive seen so far, and I cant wait to get my hands on the game this time next year. Blackbird Interactive, founded by original Homeworld Art Director Rob Cunningham takes the helm on development, returning the series to its roots with a gripping continuation of the story, fully 3D combat, and the classic RTS elements you expect. Literally nobody knows what will the final game will be like. Homeworld 3 is the true sequel to the legendary space-faring RTS. Shipbreakers was originally a crowdfunded, unrelated spiritual sequel to Homeworld, until Gearbox picked it up and retooled it as part of the universe. cataclysmic criticism of the story, lore, or other stuff is premature at this point because all weve seen is a bunch of concept art, a 30-second teaser, and a 2-minute trailer. Gearbox also took the opportunity to remind folks about Homeworld: Shipbreakers, a prequel game being developed by Homeworld veterans at Blackbird Interactive. The specific date for Homeworld 3 isn’t set just yet, but developer Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox have given themselves a good window of time to get the game out. The whole thing will cost $34.99 at release, and include compatibility-updated classic versions of both games, in case you want to view them in their original glory. Gearbox will be releasing the Homeworld Remastered Collection – which includes Homeworld Remastered and Homeworld 2 Remastered – on February 25, 2015, just about a month from now.
